Lake Ridge Middle School Reviews

I am a former student of Lakeridge Middle School and I loved it! I went to Woodbridge In sixth grade, then seventh and eighth I went to Lakeridge. I made so many more friends here and had so much fun. I definately recommend this school and the teachers and fantastic. both years I don't recall having any problems. and if so, not severe.

I have a seventh grader that attends this school. She really enjoys going to this school. Mr. Perkins has been one of the best teachers she has ever had. He also is a great basketball coach. I would recommend this school to any new residents to this area.

Well I cant say this is the best school in the state but, by far the best middle school in woodbridge. We have had a bully promblem but, out teachers petc. are doing the best of there ablitys to make it better. On the orther hand 7th grade math theres is way to much 2 learn in 182 days. I think that is a state promblem.

As a military family, I was very happy to learn that LRMS was top notch. My daughter, currently a seventh grader, is given every chance to achieve her goals. The greater majority of the teachers are supportive and actually excited about teaching these kids. I was very impressed to see such a high caliber teacher in my daughters classrooms. For the one teacher out of 8 that my daughter doesn't like, I'd say she has truly enjoyed learning in most of the classrooms. I was a little dissapointed in the lack of sports clubs offered to the students. For such a large school, they should have much more available than just 2 teams per season.

My second child is at LRMS as a 7th grader and I have two more to go. I am seriously considering private school. Bullying runs rampant in this school and the administration response is lacking at best. Truly disappointing school. Teachers are pretty good. It's just in need of new and better leadership, people who know what they are doing and want to do more than listen to themselves talk.

In my option Lake Ridge Middle School, is one of the best schools in this area. My son is a 6th grade student there. I was very nervous about him going to middle school, but the teachers, assistant principals, and guidance departments have helped him settle in very well. Also, he has been having trouble in math and they have been providing support for him since the beginning of the year. We moved here about three years ago and I'm so glad my husband checked into the schools the way he did. I am more than happy with the choice we made.

LRMS has excellent leadership. Administrators address parental concerns quickly. As with any school, there are good teachers and mediocre teachers. The band program could be stronger and my children wish there were more extra-curricular activities that are not sports-oriented. There is definitely an emphasis on sports at the school. Parental involvment is welcomed. A few teachers have bad attitudes towards students that make you wonder why they even teach. Overall, it is a good school.

I'm a sophomore who went to LRMS, and my rating of the school depends on what criteria used; in terms of the curriculum and teacher involvement, it's a wonderful school, but in terms of control over bullying and teasing, I was much disappointed. To put it bluntly, my middle school years were hell, but through no fault of the teaching staff; over LRMS was quite a good school.

I have had three children in this school; I'm thankful this is the last year. I found the school more interested in test scores than teaching the material. If you have a difference of opinion with a teacher, the administration ALWAYS takes the side of the teacher (many parents have also expressed this complaint); parents concerns are not really addressed. The edulink system does not help either. One of my children was not even entered into the system (despite contacting them) all year. The children who were in the system never had current grades entered; it was basically a copy of the interim sent home previously. The school and county try to look impressive on paper with test scores, but there is a lack in the real world.

Best teachers, best support system I have seen. Far superior to Fairfax Cty. Students are given an environment where they can succeed. InTouch online system gives parents 24 hour info and email to teachers. I am very happy I will have children here for 4 more years!

In the middle of our 3-year military tour, my family moved from Montgomery County into this school district because of its great reputation. The cost of the move was well worth it. The teachers are dedicated and work well with the students; however, they do not coddle them. All students are expected to follow the rules and act in a responsible manner. This attitude creates an environment that allows learning to take place. Lake Ridge Middle is one of few, if not the only school in the area that offers Geometry for the advanced student. Please do not be dissuaded by the other comments about this great school. If you are the type of parent that is active in your child's education and life and want to be part of a great educational program this school is for you.

I am a senior in high school at Stonewall Jackson, and attended LRMS for grades 6-8. When I attended LRMS, my class was really one of the last great classes. Teachers who taught our class in 6th grade moved up to 7th or 8th grades so that they could teach us. The school was very diverse, and I, being half-Korean, know that there is no racism at all. Black kids were treated the same as white kids, and everyone was punished the same amount for what they did. During the past several years though, the school has changed. The teachers are still dedicated, and still want to help kids learn and achieve, but many times now, it is the students themselves who do not want to participate or follow the rules. Overprotective parents now provide many of these hostilities in order to protect spoiled children who lie and cheat.

I was really upset to see that a ninth grader who is african american felt the school didn't do a good job on dealing with diversity. How we as parents think that this is okay and not address the problem. I came to this site to see what kind a school my kids will be attending and i was disturbed by what i was reading. Being african american i was very hurt to see that this is still going on. But i hope that when i do get down there this will all change to something postive after people read this. I'm looking for a school who can embrace diversity and education and provide to our children to grow up and be great leaders. Not have to worry about the color of they're skin. To all the young people of lake ridge elementary/middles school keep striving and never stop striving for your goals!

I sent one already regarding about the school in Woodbridge, VA. I'll be relocating to the area. And to read and be disturbed by a young lady who said the school she attended was racist bothered me cause I'm African-American and I still can't believe that this is still going on. How do we teach our kids about peace and respect when you have old students and currents student who feel the school doesn't respect them because of the color of their skin. Well I hope the next time I come back to review this site again, maybe someone would tell me different before I place my children at Lake Ridge Elementary/Middle School.

I'm a ninth grader at Woodbridge High School, but I did go to Lake Ridge for all my middle school years. I'm also an african-american student and I feel that most teachers were infact racist. I know that it may not seem true but if you lived in my shoes you would see it as clearly as I do. I did enjoy the activities that were provided but I feel some of the teachers ignored my friends and I because of our ethnicity.

I'm an eighth grader at LRMS. I think that this is an exceptionally good school. However, many of the teachers have an incredible lack of control of the class. The teachers merely sit there and watch everyone talk. Some teachers also Do not care about our opinions. As my english teacher bluntly put it, 'I do not care about your opinions' However, those are the only negative aspects of my school. We have sports that rank top of state, over a hundred students in the National Junior Honor Society, and so many other great things. So, I know that a high majority of you all are parents. You need to be aware of your child's behavior. Get involoved. He'll do much better that way, despite the fact that its 'uncool' to have his parents seen. It will help his future. Would you rather a son who is a drug adict or super successful??

This is one of the best middle schools in the state. The teachers and school community are truly wonderful.
