The school is pretentious and wasteful with plasma tv screens hanging randomly in the hallway and recently the school raised over $50,000 for an electronic marquee...which is, UNDOUBTABLEY, completley necessary. Just as any place, there is a mix of teachers. Ive had a range from horrid to wonderful teachers in my 4 years spent here. Despite some over-crowding our academics and extra-curricular activities are some of the best in the state of VA. I can't imagine going to a better high school. The teachers I had and friends I made are people that I still keep in contact even today while I'm off at college. Yes, its large and may pose issues to some people who like to be sheltered or prefer small environments. My child had excellent teachers and graduated to go to a top university in the country. The test scores is an average of a population across the entire spectrum. The scores may not reflect the quality of what you get out of the school. I love going to a school with fun classmates and teachers. Not to mention we are good at sports. I can't imagine going to another school because I'm part of a family at Westfield. The one problem is getting onto any of the sports teams. The amount of slots open on school teams gets filled easily by the SUPER prepared kids. The sports teams at Westfield are hard to beat because of the ratio of highly trained kids in the HUGE pool of kids trying out. So..if your well trained child doesn't make the team you hopefully find some other activity, from the many offered. That's the only real dissapointment at this school. The teacher's and councelors are top notch and genuinely interested in their students. Good choice for honors and AP courses.Great guidance for college.
