Cedar Point Elementary School Reviews

This is my 3rd year with this school.. Great staff, teacher and community of kids

My child has been attending Cedar point since 2nd grade and I would have to say it is one of the best school in the area. There is and will allways be a overcrowding issues, just because Bristow is fast and growing and is very family oriented. Support the great teachers and the administrator to make this school the best.

My daughter has been at Cedar Point for 3 years and we are very happy with the quality of the education she is receiving. My wife and I are both very active at the school (as are many other parents--a testament to the community support for this school). The school administration has a tough balancing act to perform since Cedar Point is always on the verge of bursting at the seams. Given all that, though, as the school's test scores demonstrate, this is a high-performing school.

My two boys have gone to Cedar Point in Kindergarten and are now in 2nd and 3rd grades. The school originally underwent some growing pains but is now much more manageable in terms of numbers of students/size. The teaching staff is excellent. There are several teachers in each grade level that are extraordinary. The test scores are amazing and it continues to be a school of excellence each year. The down side of Cedar Point? The Principal and Vice-principal are a bit difficult to deal with. If you have a child with special needs or you have any sort of parental or custody issues, this isn't the school for you. The staff doesn't have any time for them. Also, there's a huge emphasis on SOL's and testing so as a parent, be prepared to teach your child some of the basics like handwriting. They don't teach it here.

My daughter was in kindergarten this year. After some problems with the first teacher we got the wounderful and kind Mrs. Jacobs. My daughter loves school and her teachers! so far we love the school. I just wish they had more time to play out side.

Don't even think about coming to this school if your child has any special needs. Although the principal claims to have training and knowledge in IEP's and special needs provisions...he is clueless. He will fight your accommodations every step of the way...'I don't have to do that for just one child.' We moved to get into a better school. Good Luck!

Thanks to the amazing teachers at Cedar Point this school can survive! Dr. Drummond and his side kick Mr. LePore are the most egotistical men on the planet. They show a nice face like any politician but they are ruthless. They do what is best for themselves. My daughter was very fortunate to have an amazing second and thrid grade teacher before we moved. The second grade team was strong and loving. It was refreshing to see the thought and planning that went into the lessons that both the second and third grade grade teachers presented to the children. The science lab, music, art, pe, computer lab and spanish programs were fantastic! Our daughter loved the time she spent in the science lab. She enjoyed the teacher and her sense of humor most. Although the administration is less than par, the teachers are the saving grace.

Cedar Point was a big dissapointment to our family. As parents of a special needs child, we would have liked to have had more teaching accomadations to help our child succeed. The school is great otherwise. The overcrowding really takes a toll on the children who require special services. We were also dissapointed in the faculty. However, parent involvement is wonderful and my child loved the after school programs.

My daughters have attended Cedar Point since the opening of the school. The principal has done an excellent job with overcrowding...especially since it is entirely out of his control how the county decides the boundaries. Thanks Dr. D for being a great principal! We are very lucky!

I have my two boys attend this school since moving to Bristow in 2002. We are very lucky to be part of this great school where teachers and parents takes pride in being involved with the kids education and providing a nurturing, caring and safe environment for my kids. dr. Drummond is an exceptional principal and has provide positive leadership to the entire staff of this school. Unfortunately, due to overcrowding in this school, animosity for parents like us who does not live in Braemar are subjected to boundary reviews as the population of Bristow continues to increase at a very fast pace. I hope that my kids continue to attend this school and finish their elementary studies at Cedar Point. Thank You Cedar Point !

Cedar Point is lucky to have a great teaching staff and an army of parent volunteers putting in time each day to make this school great. The main problem is the situation of overcrowding, which limits the school's ability to offer before-school programs like Odyssey of the Mind and restricts the school's ability to give space to resource classes. My child's two years at this school have been positive thanks to outstanding teachers and willing parents. The principal should work harder to advocate a smaller school population, since the building is overcrowded by 300 students, and this would make for a safer, less stressful learning environment.

My daughter has attended this school for the last 3 years, and my son for his first year. We have been totally pleased with both of their educations and owe that to the great teachers they have both had, but also to the principal, Dr. Drummond.

This school is head and shoulders beyond Fairfax County elems. And it's less expensive to live here in Bristow too. Great, positive atmosphere, super clean, parents can really get involved, principal is fantastic. Very nice school.
