The principal does not make an effort to visit with the children or the classrooms. I believe the teachers are what is holding this schools together. My children are constantly telling me that they RARELY see the principal! I have been very disappointed with the current principal. Now that she has left, the school is no longer supportive of kids with disabilities. The principal and current vice principal are not visible. Parents are no longer encouraged to have lunch with their kids, or walk them to class. There is a disconnect between teachers and administrators. The best thing about Glenkirk is the dedicated teaching staff. The specialist, as well as the specials teachers are awesome. They truly are the glue holding the school together. It is so great to have your children going to a school where the staff all seems excited to be there. Her teachers have been wonderful, and my kids just love school because of them. The principal and vice principal get involved with the student body as well, and make an effort to visit the classrooms too. They really care about the kids, and it definately shows with their involvement. I also enjoy the other students and their families. It's a pleasure visiting my daughter at school - good people all around and a positive place to be. I love having my daughters go to a school where they enjoy the bus, school, kids, teachers and staff. It's the main reason we're trying to stay here in Gainesville, among other good reasons to stay.”
