St. Johns College High School Reviews

St. John's has provided an excellent opportunity for my son. He was a transfer from another school and immediately fit in. The facilities are extraordinary and the teaching staff is excellent and very responsive. All homework, assignments and handout are posted on line. Academic performance is also posted on-line and updated instantly allowing the parents instant progress reports. The President and principal of this school has done an excellent job and I would rank this as one of the top schools in the DC area.

Scholastically excellent---underrated in my view academically-- extra curricular activities good but not great and sports programs are very successful in terms of win/loss but are very misguided in terms of what high school sports should be about. Baseball program particularly is ranked highly but is undoubtedly successful at the expense of and to the detriment of the majority of the participants developmentally. Nepitism and alumni manipulations abound and new coach is a legacy youngster who has yet to figure out how to communicate effectively. Given the cost involved for tuition, there are other options available that are quality in both academic and athletic terms. Athletics at St John's are definately program focused programs and not student focused programs. They are successful at obtain some scholarship help for some kids but it comes at a definate price to the kids in other ways.

We have been very pleased with the quality of leadership, caring, academics, athletic opportunities, that have been afforded our daughter. We have also been impressed that the spiritual dimension is always acknowledged in activities.

Great academic programs, limited extracurricular clubs, excellent atheletic programs, and parents are highly involved.

St. John's has provided an excellent education to my daughter. Faculty and administration are highly qualified and committed to the education and personal growth of the students. SJC offers an environment, which encourages students to reach within themselves to grow by taking on new challenges. The Scholar's Programme is especially noteworthy. During their junior year, all Scholars participate in this class, which provides a thorough understanding and practical application of the Socratic Method. Over the year, each student creates presents and defends their personal theory on education using the Socratic Method. I have not found a class like this one anywhere else. My only regret is that I do not have additional children to send to SJC. Additionally, they offer quality sports, music, and theater programs. Finally, the JROTC, which is one of the oldest in the nation, has left an indelible mark on the school and with the Christian Brothers philosophy creates an environment where students demonstrate respect to oneself and others that sets SJC apart other schools.

This school has it all--excellent leadership, a dedicated faculty, motivated students--all united by a common vision of the development of the whole person--spiritually, academically, athletically, and sociallly. The JROTC program is outstanding.

Great school. Excellent academics, good location, very affordable (for a non-public school in DC). Good athletic program. The schools leadership is superb - very involved and interested in parents involvement. Safety and discipline are very good.

This school has a ton of school spirit, and the kids seem happy. The religion program, however, is a bit watered down for my taste. Academically, it's very good. The teachers are very accessible and work hard to help parents and kids. Homework is posted online, which is a huge help.
